This is my fifth narration on the broad area of Academic Process Automation. I will put before you some basic questions which many of you ask me.

1. Is it necessary: Let us avoid often used words like transparency, efficiency and accuracy. I like to put before you a very high impact factor – the reputation. Office administration working on computers enhances perception value of your institution. Most of national and international surveys on academic ranking of colleges give as much as 25 to 30 percent weightage to the perception value. Academic Automation directly enhances the ranking of your institution.

2. Is the cost prohibitive: Some of the colleges I interacted shy away thinking that they may not be able to afford the cost. As a rough estimate, the development cost is as much as the cost of hiring a mid-level office staff. Maintenance cost about one-fourth of it per year. The goodness is not in terms of reducing office staff but on their deployment for a better utilization.

3. Is there any HR related issue: The fear of loss of job used to be there about 20 years ago. Now your office staff would love work on an efficient time saving system.

4. Is computer network required: Not necessary to have your own network of computers. Computers can be networked using a modem or a mobile hotspot. The speed offered by most of telecom operators is good enough for a medium size academic organization.

You may ponder upon these compelling factors. You may call me or send me a mail for implementation of academic automation.
